The International Chisholm Trail Association
A group of people interested in the history of cowboys and the trail that they traveled came together and formed the International Chisholm Trail Association. This organization was started in 2000 and has been developing ever since.

The purpose of the ICTA is: Recognizing the Chisholm Trail as the most widely known trail, the Association will identify, preserve, develop, celebrate and promote the Great Cattle Trails of the 19th Century for education and heritage tourism. The Association will accomplish these purposes through research, publishing and marketing.
The Association wants to keep the history of the great cattle drive alive. Through working together, sharing ideas, the heritage that brought us the American Cowboy can be preserved forever.

The ICTA is working towards getting the Chisholm Trail designated a National Historic Trail by the National Park Service. This effort takes a Bill passed by the Senate to have the NPS conduct a Feasibility Study to determine if the Trail qualifies under National Trails Act. Available is a travel brochure for the entire Chisholm Trail, marking the Chisholm Trail from Brownsville, TX to Abilene, KS. Developing educational material to use in schools and to market a heritage tour for the Chisholm Trail worldwide is our next project.

This website will include historical information on the trails and museums emphasizing the history of the trails.

Most of the discussion has been mainly on the Chisholm Trail, but the Association wants to include all the cattle trails that were used to move cattle to markets.
The International Chisholm Trail Association would like to invite everyone who is interested in the cowboy heritage and the history of the cattle trails to join and help preserve this unique history that can be found only in the United States.
